Cotton

From polo shirts to sweatshirts, from t-shirts to garments of the Undercolors brand, cotton is a fundamental fiber for United Colors of Benetton. This is why we are committed to using high quality and, above all, sustainable cotton. Today, most Undercolors items include long-fiber cotton, a fine yarn that develops only in areas of the planet with certain climatic conditions, such as Egypt and the southern United States. Its threads exceed 28 millimeters in length and create a fabric that’s much more resistant, softer and more refined than normal - ideal for underwear. In the rest of our collections, organic cotton is grown without GMOs and with a lower environmental impact, represents more than half of our production. Furthermore, since we joined the BCI (Better Cotton Initiative) in 2017, a quarter of the cotton we use is processed and harvested by trained growers to minimize the use of fertilizers and pesticides, using water and soil in a sustainable way and adhering to principles of fairness in labor relations. Our goal is to exceed 80% sustainable cotton in our collections by 2025.
